Bee-Centered Beekeeping 101: How to Get Started with Bees & Create a
Pollinator Friendly Garden
This workshop will cover some key aspects of bee
biology and behavior and introduce you to ‘natural’ beekeeping methods.
You will learn a brief history of beekeeping, the basic equipment
needed, site selection, and where to obtain honeybees and equipment. You
will learn a more sustainable, holistic approach on how the colony works
as an organism, interacts with the environment, plants, flowers, and
with us. We will demonstrate how to assemble the wooden boxes and
frames, as well as share tips on how to plant a garden that attracts
honeybees and other pollinators. You will go home with a potted/seeded
container to start your own pollinator garden. Even if you do not want to be a
beekeeper, come and learn how to appreciate them, as well as how to go
pesticide free for pollinators and improve the environment with
beneficial forage plantings.
